Our Matcha Story
It all started with a trip to Japan, where we fell in love with the calm rhythm of Japanese tea culture. And how could we not. From the growing, handpicking and grinding of the tea leaves to the very moment that vibrant green matcha powder hits your cup. We were captivated by the quiet rituals, the attention to detail, and the way a single bowl of matcha could create a sense of calm. That’s something we wanted to bring home.
At Sayū we really want you to understand the artistry of tea preparation and enjoy your matcha to the fullest. Since we’re all used to grab a drink on the go, we sometimes forget to pause and reconnect. We would like to invite you to slow down and create your own matcha moment.
As haute cuisine lovers, we like our tea ritual elevated. So we hunted down the perfectly balanced, rich, creamy and high quality matcha for you to enjoy. We hope you’ll love it as much as we do.
Sayū means balance or harmony.
It reflects the idea that opposing sides can coexist and complement one another, like yin and yang.
The Art of Matcha
Matcha begins long before the harvest. It starts in the tea fields where the leaves are shaded from the sun to concentrate their color and deepen their natural umami. Every step is guided by tradition and trust in the pace of nature.
Only the youngest and most delicate leaves are picked by hand. This time-honored method preserves the purity of the leaf and reflects the care behind every cup. True quality cannot be rushed.
From the Heart of Kagoshima
Kagoshima. A lush region in the south of Japan known for its rich volcanic soil and pure spring water. The warm climate and mineral-rich earth create the perfect conditions for growing vibrant, high-quality tea leaves.
Kagoshima’s farmers have mastered the craft of tea cultivation through generations, combining tradition with care for the land. The result is a smooth, naturally sweet matcha with a deep green color and balanced flavor.
